Last week we were lucky enough to have Matt Tavares visit 3rd and 4th graders in the library! There is a committee in our district that works to bring PTO-funded enrichment programs to our schools. They bring in all sorts of presentations including this particular one so it was a happy surprise when I found out Matt would be visiting our students. In preparation for his visit, the classroom teachers read a selection of his books. In the library, we explored his website, blog, book trailers, interviews, and the books we had in our collection. Mother’s Day Surprise

My husband and I drove down to Putnam, CT to have a Mother’s Day lunch with our families today.  Putnam has a cute little downtown with a lot of nice restaurants and antique stores (which I enjoy more than Mr. Lodge).  I’ve been antiquing in Putnam many times but never realized it is where the Gertrude Chandler Warner Boxcar Children museum is until today when we parked next to a big red boxcar!    Needless to say, I was pretty excited!  I loved The Boxcar Children when I was in elementary school.  The boxcar has one end set up with all the different things the Alden children had like Benny’s cracked pink cup.
